Internet of Things-Based Smart Farming Monitoring System for Bolting Reduction in Onion Farms

According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, is amongst top ten onion-producing countries in world. Though Pakistan, most districts Khyber Pakhtunkhwa produce onions, Malakand division lonely contributes 60% total onion production country. In farming, bolting an insidious phenomenon that occurs plants due fluctuations environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, and light intensity. Due bolting, flowering stem plant produced before crop harvested, resulting a poor-quality harvest yield. Therefore, from farmer’s perspective, it highly desirable monitor control avoid bolting. this paper, we propose design new prototype, namely, smart farming monitoring system (SFMS) for reduction, which based on generic three-layered IoT architecture. By using (Internet things) technology careful remote monitoring, more favorable environment can be provided reduce To analyze efficacy performance proposed SFMS, real test-bed implementation was carried out. The SFMS prototype installed both open greenhouse crops. Based data received via sensors, percentage recorded 16.7% while 3% closed environment. environment, optimal intensity were crops SFMS. For reason, reduced 3%, consequently yielding better production. Moreover, low-cost, easy-to-install solution developed with locally available hardware resources, believe transform conventional into productive convenient region.
